THE DOT-BOX can be opened with ease in under 10 seconds.
It is unlocked by applying non-violent anti-centrifugal force.
It is then opened by the correct use of the tools provided.

It is a hard puzzle so is best solved on a hard smooth surface, but no banging!

Factors effecting the phenomena appear to include:-
The weight,
Diameter,
Height,
Height of mechanism in relation to the height of the box.
Smoothness of the surface on which it is solved.
Hardness of the surface on which it is solved (Hard BUT you do NOT need to bang it)

It may not be possible to open the DOT BOX in space; however we have not tried it yet.

Occasionally small parts may stick in which case ensure the lid is pressed home, jiggle the box and start again.

There are three magnets in the DOT BOX. None of them have anything to do with locking the lid. One is to hold the box firmly in the plinth. The other two are to pull the lid off.

The lid is held on by some non-magnetic pins arranged radially in a plane parallel to the base. The pins can slide in their holes. When the pins are in their outermost position they protrude from the lid into the box walls thus locking the lid. When the pins are all moved towards the centre of the lid, then the lid is unlocked.
