THE VAULT

This magnificent puzzle was designed and made by Michail Toulouzas in 2012.

It arrived with a solution book which we did not look at, a certificate about being number 10 of an edition of only 11, and a beautiful wooden flashlight. Obviously the latter is for peeking through the large keyholes. We took the liberty of making a brass bracket so the flashlight would be less likely to become separated from the safe. We also broke puzzler collectors protocols and found a Japanese Puzzle Box that seemed made to fit inside the safe.

Many sequential discovery puzzles are mind-blowingly complex; however what we particularly like about this puzzle is that it is a "sequential discovery puzzle" which a non-expert puzzler can enjoy solving. Look and read no further as there is a slight spoiler below.

Peeking through the keyholes the mechanics, all wood, of the lock can be understood. Once unlocked, the door swings open to reveal the inside. It is at this point that you hear a small click. "Oh Dear!" your problems have just started - The door will not close and the obvious ways forward do not work. Your puzzle fun has just started.
