"NEWS FROM THE WAR" |

A most unusual piece of folkart depicting French and German soldiers in hand to hand combat. Inscribed "NEWS FROM THE WAR" and then "From PARIS" or "from BERLIN" depending which way up it is. Judging from the uniforms it is either from very early in World War One or from the earlier Franco-Prussian War of 1870. It seems curious that it appears to have been made in England but apart from the front inscriptions, the back identifies all the timbers used. |
