THE WORLD'S PUZZLE

This is a rather grand name for a classic puzzle made around 1886 in Germany and USA.
Place 6 pins onto the 6 x 6 grid so that there is only one on each line and diagonal.

The puzzle itself is well known in many versions including as an advertisement on the card opposite.

Below we demonstrate that only by having several variations of a puzzle does it become possible to establish details of where, when and how they were made and distributed.
