This is a typical example of one of the smaller Compendiums of Puzzles that were sold in London in the latter part of the 19th Century. Professor Hoffman collected many of his puzzles from this type of box.

THE FIVE SQUARES PUZZLE. The box usually contains several copies of the "Five Squares". Your challenge is to take one of the pieces of five squares and make just 2 cuts and then re-assemble the parts into a single larger square. |
