"Le Pays des Rebus"

This magnificent large box (48 x 33 cm.) contains around 280 paper covered wood blocks in two layers. Each block is beautifully illustrated.

This puzzle or game appears to have been made around 1860 in France by Vasseur of Paris. The lithography by H.Janin

We know nothing about how this was played. Presumably one must arrange the rebus blocks to make sentences in French.
