ANAMORPHIC PORTRAITS OF KING CHARLES I

This ink wash drawing on the left of the king dates from after 1649.

The strangely elongated drawing signed 'drawn by H.D.', with the inscription above the image 'King Charles 1st's head drawn in optiks, place the letter A to your eye.'

Above is how the image which looks when viewed at an angle from just above the letter "A"

 

 

Note how different it is from the image below which was modified using "Perspective Correction" with computer software.

 

 

These portraits of Charles I continued to be popular for many years.
