FIND THE QUEEN.

This puzzle is similar to many of the Hoffmann's type of turned wooden puzzles of the late 19th Century.

It is especially unusual because it was made on an ornamental lathe, possibly a Holzapfel.

Unscrew the lid and there is another recessed lid with four holes but no obvious way to open it.
The bottom has also been decorated on the lathe. The central hole is an added red herring.

The solution is to rearrange the two ebony pegs in the lid so that it can be turned upside down and be used as a "key" to unscrew the inner lid.

Queen Victoria's portrait is found on the farthing coin inside.
