Coenraad van Houten opened his first chocolate factory in Amsterdam 1815 and by 1850 was exporting to England, France, and Germany. Like many food manufacturers the company has used several advertising puzzles. This excellent "jigsaw" dates from the late 19th century and is one of the earliest to use letters to form the completed picture.
