A
CHAMPAGNE PUZZLE
To celebrate this years end, and the near Centenary of the puzzle. This
French Jéroboam of Champagne stands half a meter high. The bottom
piece is mounted on a heavy cast-iron base, the remaining pieces are held
in place by elastic straps.
It is truly remarkable that it has survived in near perfect condition
for nearly 100 years. It was made in 1911 by P.C. & Co. as a target
for shooting at with a toy gun. The Puzzle being to reassemble it for
the next shot.
A PUZZLE
OUR WEBMASTER HAS BEEN INDULGING IN SEASONAL CHEER AND HAS BECOME SOMEWHAT
CONFUSED. HE HAS MEASURED THE BOTTLE: IT IS 50 cm HIGH AND HAS AN APPARENT
DIAMETER OF 14 cm. HE IS NOW USING HIS INTERNET AND ARITHMETIC SKILLS
TO DOUBLE CHECK WHICH BOTTLE IT REALLY REPRESENTS: A PICOLO, FILETTE,
MAGNUM, JEROBOAM, REHOBOAM, METHUSELAH, SALMANAZAR, BALTHAZAR, NEBUCHADNEZZAR,
MELCHIOR, OR WHAT?.
CAN YOU HELP HIM DECIDE?
